ROSSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) – More than 200 performers from 22 schools across Indiana were in attendance at Rossville High School today for a dance invitational.
The dancers performed styles ranging from jazz to pom to hip-hop at the event, which was being hosted by the school for the seventh consecutive year.
Rossville Dance Team head coach Janilyn Layton says the dancers are true athletes.
“The dancers aren’t just people that perform at half-times. I mean they do a lot of behind the scenes work. They have scholarships that they can receive through this association and there are a lot of dancers that go on and major in dancing to be choreographers, go to New York, and choreograph Broadway shows,” said Layton.
Layton says even though both her daughters have graduated she wants to continue coaching the program because of the progress she is able to see her dancers make.
