LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Police have identified the body found Sunday as that of a missing Lafayette man.
The body of 25-year-old Neal Bastian was found around 4:15 p.m. The Lafayette Police Department said his body was located on the east bank of the Wabash River, approximately 200 yards north of the Riehle Plaza. They said Bastian’s body was found in a wooded area between the river and the Heritage Trail.
Police said they don’t suspect any suspicious activity.
On Friday, Lafayette police conducted a search of the east bank of the Wabash River. The search included the Heritage Trail, and was based on information that Bastian liked to fish in this area.
Police believe the higher temperatures Sunday allowed for the melting of snow, which aided in the discovery of Bastian.
Bastian was last seen on the morning of Jan. 18 in the 1200 block of N. 13th Street in Lafayette. Bastian had told family and friends he was going fishing.
Autopsy results are pending.
