WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Trimesters at Purdue are moving forward.

President Mitch Daniels asked University Senate Chairman David Williams to form a task force to create year-round trimesters. He said the university has progressed to the point where the conversation needed to begin.

Under the shared governance rules at Purdue, the faculty control the calendar. Daniels said it needs to be determined if the calendar can be changed.

If trimesters work out, more faculty will be needed.

“We are going to be hiring more faculty anyway, it’s certainly in our budget and in our plan. If we did go to a year-round calendar, absolutely we’ll need more faculty. Like I said here, I think it’s a great thing,” said Daniels.

Daniels said the trimesters could be in place by the fall of 2015.
