LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – This winter has brought more than its share of snow days for area students. Now, a Lafayette rollerskating rink is opening early on snow days to help keep kids from going stir crazy.

Skate America in Lafayette opened its doors at noon to give kids an outlet to cure the winter blues. Students can strap on their skates, play games and have a treat at the concession stand.

Events Coordinator Christina Rivers said skating is good exercise for kids, but also allows parents to stay on track when school is canceled.

“If they want to join the kids, they can come skate as well. They can also drop the kids off and have a break,” said Rivers. “I know school has been out a lot, so kids have been home a lot. This could give them a opportunity to go do what they need to do.”

Skate America is open until 8 p.m. Every Tuesday, the entry fee is only $2. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
