WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Enjoying football with friends and family is a tradition for a lot of us, but one Purdue professor is advising that you put down your gadgets and just watch the game.

Communications Professor Glenn Sparks said he wants people to keep their smart phones and laptops out of sight on Sunday. He said in recent years, there has been a push for people to engage others online during the game.

Sparks said research suggests tweeting and texting during the game takes people away from enjoying the company of family and friends sitting right next to you.

Sparks suggests having a “No Technology Rule” before people come over and have them leave their phones in their cars.

In today’s fast-paced technological world, that may be harder than you think.
