LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette business is looking to move closer to downtown by requesting a zoning exception for six property lots between Union and Salem Streets.

Abstract Technology Group, an information technology and web design company, is currently located off Fourth Street and Teal Road. The requested lots are zoned as a residential three area, but the business that previously operated at the location received a special exception to operate there as a neighborhood business. Abstract Technology is seeking the same exception.

Requests for special exceptions on zoning requirements are made through the county Area Plan Commission.

Lafayette Common Council looked at the details of the request during a caucus meeting Wednesday.

“Neighborhood businesses are smaller businesses. They’re not as intrusive and this seems, this request seems, to fit that mold,” said Council President Steve Meyer.

City Council will consider the request during its regular meeting Monday.
