WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Winter is here to stay and while it may hurt some businesses, others are thriving from the rough winter weather.

Business is booming for Krintz Lawn Care, Inc. in Brookston because they use their trucks to plow commercial and residential lots. Vice President Michelle Krintz said this winter is keeping everyone busy.

“We had no break coming off of fall. It went right into winter and the storms are just coming one after another after another. There wasn’t any down time between trying to get the trucks ready for the snow. Then pushing the snow and getting things fixed,” explained Krintz.

The many snow event allows their employees to work all year.

“So this year, especially, has been wonderful for them because we’ve been able to keep them busy year around. Last year, we did have to lay guys off because we didn’t have enough snow or work to keep them busy. So, this year has truly been a year around business,” Krintz added.

Krintz said the winter weather does have some setbacks. The hard winter can leave some wear and tear on their vehicles and equipment. Because of this, the maintenance costs can quickly add up.

“When you have this big of storm or this much plowing, a lot more things break. more accidents. We’ve had way more of that kind of stuff,” said Krintz.

Ace Hardware in West Lafayette is another business thriving from the winter weather.

Manager Tim Ginter said the most popular supplies are shovels and ice melter. He explained it can be difficult to keep those in stock and they’re starting to run out of supplies at their warehouse.

“We give them recommendations. Like right now, we ran out of frost tape. So, we then decided to start ordering the stuff you make yourself and now we’re running out of that as well,” said Ginter.
