TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – An electric baseboard heater is being blamed for a fire that destroyed a home earlier this week.
Firefighters said it started just before 10 p.m. Wednesday at 9004 Commercial Drive. When crews arrived, the first floor of the home was engulfed.
The homeowner was taking a shower when the fire started, but made it out of the house without any injuries.
As of 12:15 Thursday morning, crews were still working to extinguish hot spots. The house has been ruled as a total loss.
Firefighters from Lauramie Township, Wea Township, Randolph Township and Clarks Hill Fire Departments were on the scene.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
