LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Democrat John Dale filed Thursday to run for Indiana’s 4th Congressional District seat currently held by Republican Todd Rokita.

Dale is a history and government teacher at Western Boone High School.

Dale said despite never running for public office, he felt compelled to do so after Rokita’s response to the government shutdown. He said not being willing to negotiate is contrary to how government should operate.

“I think we need someone who will reach across the lines, talk to both sides. Compromise is not a bad word. Compromise is a good word,” said Dale.

Dale is one of two Democrats in the May primary.

Crawfordsville resident Howard Pollchik filed to run earlier this month.

As News 18 reported earlier this week, Tara Nelson withdrew from the Democratic primary for personal reasons.
