TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – Two Lafayette men are arrested after a morning burglary in Tippecanoe County. The arrest was in part due to what deputies say was a “citizen being vigilant.”

At approximately 9:43 a.m. on Tuesday, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of suspicious activity by a home near Lafayette’s south side.

Deputies arrived minutes later at the home located on W. County Road 375 South. They said upon arrival, an open door was discovered at the residence.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Rush stated that he witnessed two male subjects run from the rear of the home. The subjects were chased on foot by Rush, and assisted by the Lafayette Police Department. Both men, Austin Rasmussen, 22, and Casey Kimbrell, 18, were taken into custody.

According to Deputy Rush, “The arrests in this case are a direct result of a citizen being vigilant and immediately reporting suspicious activity to local law enforcement.”

Both men are currently being held in the Tippecanoe County Jail, with bond set at $5,000.

Rasmussen and Kimbrell face preliminary charges of burglary and resisting law enforcement.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the burglary is ongoing.
