TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – As contract negotiations continue between IU Health and United Healthcare, another network of doctors is waiting to see how it could affect patients.
Franciscan Saint Elizabeth Health CEO Terry Wilson said even though the Franciscan Physician Network is not part of the negotiations between IU Health and United Healthcare, he is paying close attention to them.
Wilson said doctors and potential patients have asked about the capacity for new patients. He said offices are not doing anything specific to prepare for the possible influx of patients.
He said he got the questions about the hospitals’ capacity on Tuesday.
“We have already received inquiries about our capacity to take new patients,” Wilson said. “We do have capacity to take new patients.”
Wilson said you never know how many patients the Franciscan Physician Network could gain if a contract between United and IU Health is not reached, but he is confident the capacity at Franciscan Saint Elizabeth Health facilities can accommodate the numbers.
If a contract is not reached between IU Health and United Healthcare it would affect about 400,000 Hoosiers.
