WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue officials announced it will suspend operations and classes for the remainder of Wednesday. Non-essential personnel are not required to report to campus.
University officials first reported that campus would delay the start of the day and open at 1 p.m. But as of Wednesday morning, Purdue officials announced it will suspend non-essential operations and classes for the remainder of Wednesday.
Officials in the Purdue Athletics Department said the Men’s Basketball game versus Minnesota at Mackey Arena will still be played Wednesday evening. The game tips off at 8:30 p.m.
Purdue University will resume normal operations at 6 a.m. Thursday. All employees should return to work for their scheduled shift, and classes will resume as well.
Purdue encourages students to check for messages from instructors regarding the status of individual class sessions on Thursday.
Carol Shelby, senior director for environmental health and public safety, said the primary factor in the decision to cancel was a concern for safety.
Campus roads, sidewalks and parking lots have been cleared and are in adequate condition. But according to Shelby, the road conditions for those commuting from outside of campus was a big factor in the decision to close.
