WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The more winter weather we have, the more salt city and county officials need to use.
Street departments around the nation have been dealing with salt shortages. West Lafayette Street Commissioner Dave Downey said he has enough salt to get the city through the winter, but it is not all here yet.
He said weather has affected the timeliness of shipments, but he does not see anything that could put the city in an extreme salt shortage.
“I have about 500 tons in [the garage], 100 tons were delivered to me [on Tuesday],” Downey said. “I have about 600 to 700 tons left on my contract.”
Crews are continuing to treat the roads with salt as they plow the snow.
