WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) – Purdue head football coach Darrell Hazell announced the signing of 19 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play for the Boilermakers.

The class is comprised of four offensive linemen, four defensive backs, three defensive linemen, two wide receivers and linebackers and one quarterback, running back, tight end and punter.

The group hails from 11 different states, with three each from Indiana, Georgia and Texas, two from Michigan and Florida and one each from Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, Ohio and Virginia.

The class features three early enrollees in offensive lineman Kirk Barron, quarterback David Blough and defensive end Langdon Newton.

“I think that anytime you’re trying to build a program, that you have to have guys that can fight through a little bit of adversity, and that’s not only physically tough, but mentally tough,” Hazell said.

“These guys love the game so much, and they love to compete. They want to be out on the field, so you have to recruit some toughness into your program. I think our team needs leadership, and I think you saw that all last year. That’s what you want around your guys. Guys that are able to step up and say the things that are supposed to be said, and do the things that are supposed to be done, and that’s what leadership is all about.”
