WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – West Lafayette annexation plans go into effect next week as the 90 day remonstrative period comes to an end.
Starting next week the city of West Lafayette will take over all services in the annexed areas. West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis said the transition will be an easy one.
“We’ve been working with the county Sheriff’s Department going on police calls out there,” Dennis said. “We’ve been working with the Purdue Fire Department and Wabash Township Volunteer Department and assisting with calls in the newly annexed area. There’s a couple residential areas that we’ve already had some contact with the citizens there. We’re actually picking up trash in some of those areas and plowing the streets.”
Dennis says the city plans on hiring more police officers and firefighters based on the potential growth of the area.
