WHITE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – A White County man has life-threatening injuries after a snowmobile crash Friday afternoon.

Indiana Conservation Officer Todd Pekny said Devon Lee, 20, of Brookston was operating a snowmobile when he hit a utility pole around 4 p.m. on County Road 200 East, near County Road 1100 South, about two miles southeast of Brookston.

Lee had major head injuries and was rushed to Franciscan St. Elizabeth East, where he was listed in critical condition Friday night.

Ofc. Pekny said Lee was traveling at a high rate of speed.

“It appears that after it struck the pole that it came off at about a 45 degree angle from the pole,” said Ofc. Pekny.

A passenger on the snowmobile, Jaren Evans, 18, had minor injuries and refused treatment on the scene.

Investigators say neither man was wearing a helmet. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
