LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Saturday, Feb. 22 will be a day devoted to spelling in Greater Lafayette.
It’s the 24th annual “Spell Day.” The day starts with the Journal and Courier’s Scripps Regional Spelling Bee at 9 a.m. Local students will compete for a trip to Washington, D.C. to test their skills among the nation’s best spellers at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
That event is followed by the Regional Workforce Board Spelling Bee for Literacy at 1:00 p.m. Teams compete in groups of three, and anyone can enter. In this team format, team members may collaborate on the spelling of the word when it is given. One person will spell the word.
Entry fee is $25 and is due by Monday, Feb. 17. Spell Day will be held at Sunnyside Intermediate School at 530 N. 26th Street in Lafayette.
