Victim in weekend shooting identified

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – News 18 has now learned the name of the victim involved in a shooting from over the weekend.

The Lafayette Police Department reports 29-year-old Preston O’Connor of Lafayette was shot in his chest around 4 a.m. Sunday. The incident occurred in the 1300 block of Parkway Court.

Police said O’Connor knocked on several doors in the 1300 block of 28th Street asking for help after he was shot.

Detectives said O’Connor underwent surgery Sunday at Franciscan St. Elizabeth East. As of Monday morning, he remains in the Intensive Care Unit. Police said the shooting happened after an argument broke out between two groups of people.

Detectives did retrieve a loaded handgun from the scene, and have conducted several interviews with persons of interest. No arrests have been made at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
