WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – West Lafayette Board of Works members want the city to put pressure on a contractor to complete a delayed lift station project.

The north side regional lift station is now two months behind schedule. Utility Director Dave Henderson said the project was supposed to start in November 2012, but work did not begin until January 2013.

The lift station will service businesses in the Purdue Research Park and the area north of it.

Henderson said the contractor will start paying the city back as the deadline gets further away.

“The contract is set up with liquidated damages $1,500 a day for every day passed substantial completion,” Henderson said. “Right now it’s added up quite a bit.”

The project was supposed to be finished in December before inclement weather arrived. However, snow and freezing temperatures caused further delays.
