LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI)- New Community School has renewed its charter with Ball State University.

The renewal comes shortly after the school went from an “F” to a “C” on the state’s accountability ratings.

New Community School Executive Director Leitha Stone said teachers pulled together last year to improve that rating and receive a renewal.

Ball State has renewed the charter for three years. Stone said the charter renewal may seem short, but it came as no surprise.

“It’s easier to keep track of accountability on a shorter time-frame, so that’s what we were expecting to get – was a three year. It was not a surprise,” said Stone.

Now that their charter has been renewed, Stone said the school will work to improve on their current accountability rating. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
