LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A group, including young Tippecanoe County residents, is helping launch a campaign in support of a bill adding a same-sex marriage ban to the state constitution.

The “Young Hoosiers for Marriage” group said they want lawmakers to know there are young people in Indiana that support traditional marriage.

“Young Hoosiers for Marriage” volunteer and Tippecanoe County resident Shane Weist said the group believes marriage should be between one woman and one man…and he believes the issue should be decided by the people of Indiana.

“The ability to vote is the most democratic process in America. For Indiana, as a whole to be able to vote on this, we think it’s a big enough issue that all Hoosiers should be able to decide how this is determined,” Weist said.

Weist said he wants traditional marriage protected because he believes children are better off with both a mother and a father. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
