WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Despite the harsh winter, construction on a new Meijer building in West Lafayette is on schedule.

West Lafayette Director of Development Chandler Poole said once that project is complete, construction in that area may not end. He said a number of developers have shown interest in the area near Meijer, but no set plans have been made.

“We have some private developers who have expressed some interest with some very nice users, that I think the community would be very supportive of,” said Poole.

West Lafayette resident Karen Kushman said, “I wouldn’t mind seeing some more restaurants. We have enough Wal-mart type stores, but maybe we can get some other shopping.”

Poole said he hopes there will be movement on new development in the next few months. He said construction on Meijer is expected to wrap up this spring. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
