Crash closed US 231 in Montgomery Co.

MONTGOMERY CO., Ind. (WLFI) – The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office reported that a crash closed U.S. 231 on Thursday morning. Both lanes have since re-opened.

Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office closed U.S. 231 due to a crash at County Line Road between Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties.

Montgomery County deputies report a semi truck carrying grain was headed southbound, when it crossed the center line and collided with a vehicle traveling northbound.

The woman driving the car had three children in her vehicle. Deputies report the woman was airlifted and transported to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis with unknown injuries. One of the children was transported to Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health in Crawfordsville.

The two people were in the semi truck. They were checked and treated on scene and both have been released.

Grain and diesel fuel are spilled across U.S. 231. At 1 p.m., crews were working to clear the scene and one lane was opened. As of 2 p.m., the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office said both lanes have been re-opened.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on scene.
