WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The annexation of the U.S. 231 Corridor by the city of West Lafayette has taken effect.

The city filed annexation paperwork with the Tippecanoe County Clerk, Auditor and Recorder’s offices on Wednesday, as required by state law. There were no court challenges to the annexation.

In an e-mail announcing the annexation West Lafayette Mayor John Dennis said, “It is with great pleasure that I can say all steps have now been taken to complete the U.S. 231 area annexation process. Effective today, February 13, 2014, this area is now officially part of the City of West Lafayette. A warm welcome to our new residents and many thanks to all involved in this important achievement.”

The annexation effectively doubles the size of West Lafayette, which includes Purdue University.
