One in custody after shots fired near federal courthouse

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Police officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department say one person was taken into custody after an incident downtown Thursday afternoon.

An off duty officer noticed a black man fire shots into the air at the IndyGo stop near the federal courthouse. The courthouse was not hit and no one was injured.

According to a police report, the person who fired the gun took off. Police later caught up with him and he was taken into custody. That person was later identified as 20-year-old Kailyn Smith.

A K-9 unit was called to the scene to search for a gun, as the suspect threw the gun as he ran from the scene.
