Pep rally draws 300 Purdue students

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – About 300 Purdue students came out to cheer on their Boilers before Saturday afternoon’s big game.

A pep rally organized by Campus Outreach was held at the Co-Rec Center on campus Friday night.

Each member of the basketball team was introduced to a big cheer. Purdue Pete was also on hand, along with the Paint Crew.

More than $4,000 worth of prizes were donated and raffled off, along with some competitions and plenty of freebies.

“I think it’s a pretty good idea, especially with the team struggling with the past few years. I think it will be good to get some morale up and get people excited about the game,” said Purdue junior Alayne Meyer.

“I was really shocked that there wasn’t a pep rally for such a heated rivalry like the IU – Purdue game. The basketball team is excited, the coaching staff is excited,” said Campus Outreach Director Kyle Wallace.

Wallace says they hope to organize a similar event for the Purdue-IU football game in the fall. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
