LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Tippecanoe School Corporation received a donation of $10,000 from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. to help replace technology that was lost or damaged when a tornado hit two school buildings.
The Nov. 17, 2013 storm damaged Southwestern Middle School and Mintonye Elementary School. About 1,000 students and 120 staff members have relocated to Wea Ridge Middle School and First Assembly Community Ministries until their buildings can be repaired.
A representative for Toyota, Jana Martin, said the company is pleased to support education in the community. She said she hopes this donation supports the district’s rebuilding efforts.
TSC officials said the donation will help improve the student-to-computer ratio among the sixth grade students at First Assembly Community Ministries. The money will be used to purchase a fourth mobile computer cart equipped with 16 new laptops.
In a news release, TSC Superintendent Scott Hanback said the donation was greatly appreciated.
“We are working to get the new computers into the classrooms as soon as possible,” said Hanback. “The outpouring of support for our school system, teachers and students has been overwhelming.”
