Copper thefts a problem for State Police

WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) – State police are searching for two men who were trying to steal copper from a light post on Interstate 65.

The incident happened Monday evening just south of the rest stop in White County. A trooper on County Road South 1000 West saw two men flee the scene on foot. They were described as wearing dark clothing.

State police said people stealing copper from the light posts on I-65 has been an issue for about two months.

As of 11 p.m. Monday, troopers were still out in the fields, searching for the men. A K-9 officer with the Indiana State Police and one with the White County Sheriff’s Office were also on scene.
