INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The man accused of shooting his ex-wife outside of an Indianapolis day care appeared before a judge on Monday.
Christopher Justice had a hearing Monday morning where a not guilty plea was entered on his behalf. Officers brought him back from Lexington, Ky. on Friday. That’s where police say he went after shooting his ex-wife outside the day care on West 38th Street last Tuesday.
The family of Shirley Justice was there for the court appearance and say they would worry if he was released from jail. Bond was set at $100,000.
“They are obviously concerned that he might get out on bond,” Detective Marcus Kennedy with IMPD said. “And the victim herself is very afraid if he does get out he will come to the hospital and harm her.”
Detectives say Shirley Justice is recovering from at least eight different wounds, including gunshot wounds to the chest and rib-areas. They say she is able to communicate with them using sign language.
Investigators say she remains in critical condition and will have to undergo numerous surgeries.
