INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A man who was hit while he was changing a tire along Interstate 65 over the weekend was listed in serious condition on Monday morning.

Paul Hines, 58, came to help his girlfriend’s son change a tire on Interstate 65 near the Meridian Street exit around 4 a.m. Saturday.

While Hines tried to change the tire, an SUV, driven by Lindsay Standeford, 24, hit the car, pushing it forward and pinning Hines between the car and the guardrail.

He was taken to Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital in very critical condition. On Monday morning, he was listed in serious condition in the ICU.

Standeford tested a .14 percent BAC. She was arrested and preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated causing serious bodily injury, a Class D felony.

Officials say Standeford is employed by the Airport Police Department. She was off duty and with a friend at the time of the crash.
