Purdue Crew presents $13,000 check to LUM

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette Urban Ministry is receiving $13,000 towards its Good Samaritan Fund.

The Purdue rowing team presented the check to LUM Tuesday afternoon. The team helped raise the money through a row-a-thon at the Tippecanoe Mall earlier this month.

Half of the money raised goes to LUM’s Good Samaritan Fund, which helps families in need pay for utility bills, rent and prescription medications.

Crew President Drew Stover said the other half helps fund the rowing team.

“We’re not sponsored or scholarshipped by the school at all, so we all pay to play. This sort of fundraiser has even more value because of that,” said Stover.

The rowing team is comprised of nearly 140 students.

Stover said everyone on the team participated in the row-a-thon and that they will all pitch in to write thank- you letters to those that donated.
