WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Purdue Sports) – On the heels of his record-breaking performance at the Puerto Rico Classic, Purdue men’s golfer Adam Schenk was named the Big Ten Conference Golfer of the Week, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon.

It marks the second time in his career he has earned the accolade (Oct. 11, 2012) and was the first weekly honor this year for the Boilermakers.

Schenk had an outstanding weekend at one of the nation’s most-elite tournaments, placing in a tie for third at the Puerto Rico Classic. Schenk carded rounds of 66-68-71=205 (-11) to finish one shot off the pace in a tournament that featured 23 of the top 100-ranked golfers in the country.

His first-round 66 tied for the 13th-lowest 18-hole score in school history and his final combined score of 205 (-11) was the second-best 54-hole score in school history, just behind the 200 shot by Pariya Junhasavasdikul in March 2007.

Schenk has competed in 41 career tournaments, owning 15 top-10 finishes and 24 top-20 placings. He currently owns a team-best average of 71.82 this season and has five top-20 finishes in six events, including three top-10 performances.

Schenk’s performance helped the Boilermakers to a sixth-place finish at the event, which boasted 11 of the nation’s top 43-ranked squads. Purdue’s team score of 859 tied for the 12th-best tournament score in school history.

The No. 38-ranked Boilermakers will compete next Sunday through Tuesday at the USF Invitational at Dade City, Fla. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
