Excise police arrest Bloomington business owner

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) – Indiana State Excise police arrested a Bloomington business owner Tuesday morning on several drug and alcohol charges.

Liling Jia, 60, owner of Obo’s Oriental Grocery Store, was preliminarily charged with unlawful sale of a legend drug, maintaining a common nuisance for legend drug, maintaining a common nuisance: alcohol, sale of alcoholic beverage without a permit, sale of untaxed alcoholic beverages, sale of cigarettes without an Indiana tax stamp and sale of contraband cigarettes.

According to a release, police received an anonymous tip about the business’ sales. On Feb. 4, officers executed a search warrant and found various brands of untaxed Chinese liquor, untaxed and contraband foreign cigarettes and various prescription medications that were manufactured in China.

The store has a tobacco certificate but doesn’t have an alcohol beverage permit or a license to sell prescription medication, officials say.
