LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – This winter has been rough on the Indiana Department of Transportation. With more snow expected, crews are gearing up once again.
So far this winter, INDOT has used more than 387,000 tons of salt state-wide. Crews will have enough salt for the winter storm coming in this weekend.
Despite all of the snow, INDOT spokeswoman Debbie Calder said the lull between snowfalls has helped their crews.
“We’ve had a little bit of a break, thank goodness. We’ve been able to restock some of the areas and are continuing to receive salt. We’ll be OK, but I think everybody agrees that everybody’s seen enough of the white stuff this winter,” said Calder.
In January, News 18 reported that INDOT was still under budget for the winter, having spent more than $33 million. However, that number has now risen over budget to about $50 million.
