INDIANAPOLIS (WLFI) – The West Lafayette girls soccer team received special honors at the statehouse on Monday.
Republican State Rep. Randy Truitt honored the team in a resolution at the Statehouse after their title win in the Class A State Championship.
“As a third generation attendee of West Lafayette High School, I could not be happier for my alma mater,” said Truitt in a press release. “It takes a tremendous amount of teamwork, sacrifice and discipline to win a state title. These girls have worked so hard all season, and I am proud of their accomplishment.”
The West Lafayette Red Devils won their first state title after defeating Gibson Southern in a 2-0 shutout. The team ended their season with a 15-7 record, including a 7 match unbeaten streak. Additionally, this West Lafayette high school team was able to bring home the title as Hoosier Conference Champs.
“It’s always a privilege to welcome student athletes to the Statehouse. The balance between academics and athletics is so important and is clearly reiterated in this team due to the fact that all the seniors intend to pursue a college education. After their great success in their sport this year, I wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors. I am excited to hear about their future accomplishments in their upcoming seasons,” said Truitt.
