Outrigger Resort in Monticello catches fire

MONTICELLO, Ind. (WLFI) – Firefighters were called to a White County resort Wednesday afternoon.

It happened before 3 p.m. at the Outrigger Resort on N. West Shafer Drive, just past the north entrance to Indiana Beach. When firefighters arrived on scene, one of the buildings at the resort had flames shooting out one of the doors.

Monticello Assistant Fire Chief Robert Hickman said crews were able to contain the fire to the laundry room. He said normally the resort sits empty during the winter, but it is currently being rented to construction workers who are working on the new Magnetation plant in Reynolds. Those workers were not in the building at the time of the fire.

As of 5 p.m., investigators were still on scene trying to figure out what may have caused the fire.

Firefighters from Monticello and Reynolds responded to the fire.

No one was injured.
