School mural captures students’ dreams

BATTLE GROUND, Ind. (WLFI) – Battle Ground Elementary is working on a mural made possible by its students.

Battle Ground’s guidance counselor Jeannine Jervis and art teacher Sue Perry wanted to create a mural using the thoughts and dreams of students.

Since school began in the fall, Jervis has been asking students how they would make the world a better place. Students wrote down their ideas and some were chosen to be incorporated into the art.

Second-grader Audri Wilson hopes the mural will lift people’s spirits.

“It’ll probably make them want to do things better and do the right thing. Maybe some day, they’ll want to invent something or help the world,” Wilson said.

“I think it’s going to them change the world, too. Not just us that’s in the mural, but all the other people who come here,” second-grade student Walker Andrews said.

Classes are visiting Perry while she works on the mural to learn more about the artistic process. The project is funded with a grant from the Public Schools Foundation of Tippecanoe County. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
