One dead after a crash in Cass County

CASS CO., Ind. (WLFI) – A Cass County man was killed and two others were injured in a crash Thursday morning.

The wreck happened around 11: 30 a.m. on U.S. 24 at County Road 600 East.

Investigators said a pickup truck driven by Herbert Ford, 74, of Walton, was driving north on 600 near the intersection of 24.  A semi driven by Daniel Collins, 25,  was heading west on 24.  As Ford attempted to cross the highway, the pickup and the semi collided.

Investigators said Ford was pronounced dead at the scene.  A passenger in the pickup truck, Jeff Hiner, 24, was airlifted to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.  Collins was taken to Logansport Memorial Hospital.

Southbound 24 was down to one lane for two hours as crews cleared the scene.
