LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The YWCA of Greater Lafayette will soon have a place for swimmers to enjoy aquatic activities.
After five years of being closed, the YWCA’s Schleman Natatorium indoor pool will be renovated and re-opened by July 1. The non-profit has received $120,000 in donations for the project.
YWCA Executive Director Debi DeBruyn said work will include replacing 20 drains, cleaning pool tiles and painting the pool’s interior.
“We’re going to be offering memberships and lap swim, master swim, Boiler Aquatics is coming here. We’re here and we’re ready to get it opened and now we need the community to help support it,” said DeBruyn.
The project also will include refurbishing the YWCA gym. DeBruyn said the gym will be repainted and the floors refinished.
DeBruyn said the soon to be retired Lafayette Jeff High School swim coach Jim Sharp will be the aquatics director.
