WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Purdue’s Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble performed a free concert Saturday afternoon at Loeb Playhouse as part of the Winter Music Gala.

A handful of  pieces were guest conducted by director of bands at Middle Tennesse State University Dr. Reed Thomas. He was invited to come to the event by Purdue Director of Bands Ishbah Cox to bring a new and different interpretation to the music.

Thomas arrived Friday to work with the musicians and said it’s great to see students playing for the pure joy and passion of music.

“It’s important for them to have this outlet to touch their emotions, to communicate with people in a way that is not verbal or mathematical or technical,” said Thomas.

The Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble will perform again at a year-end event on April 25 and 26 at the Elliott Hall of Music.
