TIPPECANOE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – A Lafayette company donated $5,000 to the Tippecanoe School Corporation after tornadoes damaged two schools in November.
Wednesday morning, voestalpine President Andrew Ball met with TSC leaders to present the check.
Superintendent Scott Hanback said the money will be used to buy new supplies and other items needed for both Mintonye Elementary and Southwestern Middle schools.
“We are just blessed beyond words,” Hanback said. “Our community just continues to demonstrate generosity.”
Mintonye students should be back in their building in August. However, Hanback said it could take longer for repairs at Southwestern.
Meanwhile, voestalpine continues its own recovery from November’s tornado. Ball said they’re about 80 percent back to normal operation.
He said construction on the new portion of the building has been delayed because of weather. It’s expected to begin sometime this spring.
Ball said because they know what it was like first-hand being affected by the tornado, they were happy to be able to give back to area schools.
“We have an active program of community giving and we felt what better use of some of these funds to try and help TSC get back and going again,” Ball said.
