FOUNTAIN CO., Ind. (WLFI) – A Warren County man charged with two counts of arson last year has reached a plea agreement with the Prosecutors Office Thursday.

David Purcell, 45, of Independence pleaded guilty to a felony burglary charge in exchange for both arson charges being dropped. He also pleaded guilty to being a habitual offender and receiving stolen property.

He was arrested in 2012 after a theft investigation that began in Fountain County.

As News 18 previously reported, murder charges were dropped against Purcell in connection with an Attica house fire which killed 65-year-old Ronnie Shoaf because of an incompetent witness.

In Thursday’s plea deal, Purcell faces up to 23 years in prison. His sentencing is set for April 10. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
