OSSIAN, Ind. (WANE) – Firefighters responded to a large garage fire at Pet Rest, Inc. early Sunday morning in Wells County.

The fire started just before 2 a.m. in the 1600 block East US 224. Investigators said a water tanker from the National Guard was brought to fight the blaze that was half a mile off the road.

Firefighters said the owner’s dog was unaccounted for Sunday morning.

Highway 224 was closed at about 2:45 a.m. to traffic and remained closed around 6:40 a.m.

Officials said the fire was at a cemetery where pets are cremated and buried on site. Fire crews from northern Wells County and southwest Allen County responded. They expected to be on the scene for a few hours.

One firefighter had minor injuries and was treated on scene. The fire is still under investigation.
