BOONE CO., Ind. (WLFI) – Speed has been named a factor in a crash that killed two Boone County teenagers early Sunday morning.

According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Jacob Shockley, 18, and Richard Penny Jr., 18, both died when Shockley’s car crashed into a tree around 1 a.m. Sunday.

Corporal Chris Burcham said the car was traveling at 65 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone before impact. He said excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
