LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – It’s tax season and the United Way is helping people prepare and file taxes before the April 15 deadline.
The tax preparation service is free to low and middle income families.
About 35 volunteers have helped more than 430 people file taxes so far this tax season. Last year the program helped people around the community get $1.3 million in refunds.
United Way of Greater Lafayette CEO James Taylor said it’s a great chance for the organization to give back, even to some of their donors, who might be eligible.
“This is just a great opportunity for people to access some free volunteer help, to help them as they’re trying to make their deadlines. We’re happy to help those in the community, who are helping us in the fall,” said Taylor.
The program is open by appointment Monday through Friday until April 15.
