Schools practice tornado drill for Severe Weather Week

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Tornado sirens were being tested Thursday as part of Severe Weather Preparedness Week. Schools are making sure students are prepared as well.

Lafayette Sunnyside Intermediate School practiced a tornado drill this morning. Students and teachers were able to complete the drill in under four minutes.

Principal Kevin Maxwell said he’s happy how quickly the drill went. Because of the recent tornadoes, Maxwell said students understand the importance of the drill.

“While we take all of our drills real seriously, I think because of them understanding about tornadoes, that they really do well,” said Maxwell.

Maxwell said he had fire officials review the school’s drill procedures last year.
