LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – Lafayette police arrested one suspect after responding to two armed robberies on Thursday morning.
Police responded to the first armed robbery around 3:30 a.m. at the BP gas station on Teal Road and 22nd Street.
Lafayette Police Officer Blake Switzer said the suspect, described as a black male dressed in dark pants and a dark hoodie, displayed a silver handgun and fled on foot.
While police were searching the area for the suspect, another armed robbery was reported at a Circle K gas station at the intersection of Ferry Street and Earl Avenue about 15 minutes later.
Switzer said the suspect in that robbery also displayed a silver handgun and fled the scene on foot.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office was assisting in the search. A lieutenant spotted a man matching the suspect description driving away from the scene.
Authorities followed the car, and when it came to a stop, officers identified the man as Ronald Longer.
Police found a silver handgun, a black hoodie and a large amount of cash in the vehicle Longer was driving.
Longer was taken into custody and now faces charges of armed robbery for both the incident at the BP and Circle K station Thursday morning.
In addition, Longer was also preliminarily charged in connection with the armed robbery at Village Pantry at Brady Lane and 18th Street on March 14.
He’s behind bars at the Tippecanoe County Jail.
