ATTICA, Ind. (WLFI) – An Attica couple escapes an early morning fire, aided by neighbors who raised a ladder to a second floor window. A man and woman who live at the home in the 1100 block of Ravine Park Blvd. made it out, but the man was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport with non-life threatening injuries, according to Attica Fire Chief Ed O’Farrell.

The Attica Fire Department, Williamsport Fire Department and West Point Fire Department all responded to the blaze, which started around 12:45 a.m. Friday. Firefighters are unsure of the cause, but the couple was unable to exit the house through the first floor.

According to O’Farrell, neighbors raised a ladder to the second floor and helped the family evacuate the home within the first few minutes of the fire. The fire was called in by the woman in the home, who was not hurt.

One Attica firefighter was hurt while on the scene. He was also taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Williamsport with non-life threatening injuries, according to O’Farrell.
