Crash in Jasper Co. leaves one dead

JASPER CO., Ind. (WLFI) – One man is dead after a head-on collision in Jasper County.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office received the call just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday of a collison on U.S. 24, near County Road 1080 West. When deputies arrived on scene one vehicle was engulfed in flames.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jeff Copas, 49, of Fowler was traveling west on U.S. 24 when his car crossed the center line and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.

Due to the fire, Copas was unable to be rescued from his vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Jasper County Coroner’s Office.

Two were transported to the Jasper County Hospital from the other vehicle, the 76-year-old driver Marjorie Glankowski and her 90-year-old husband Edward.

Assisting the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office on scene were Indiana State Police, Remington Fire Department, Jasper County Coroner’s Office and Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
