WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – High school robotics teams are at Purdue showing off their machines. The opening round of the Boilermaker Regionals Robotics Competition started Friday.
Students got some encouragement from Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard. He said he got invitations from a couple of teams in Indy and wanted to show everyone his support.
Mayor Ballard said he hopes the event grows in popularity.
“This is so much fun. Robotics competitions are so much fun because of the team atmosphere. They learn so many different skill sets, besides the technical skills. I just think it’s very, very important for our city, our state, our country — everything,” said Ballard.
The robotics competition runs until Saturday afternoon. The winning team will head to St. Louis for the World Championships in April.
